You Left the Event Inspired… Now What?
In this episode, I talk about:
Why giving yourself space after an event is critical for integration
The simple filtering method I use to decide what’s a no, a maybe, or a hell yes
Why trying to implement everything is the fastest way to implement nothing
Because the truth is, not everything you learn at an event is meant for you, and it’s definitely not meant for you all at once.
This episode will help you leave your next event with clarity, a plan, and the confidence to implement the ideas that truly align with your goals right now.
And if you’re an event host or facilitator, I also share how this integration process can be built into events so attendees don’t just feel inspired, they actually leave with a plan to take action. (Aka hire me to facilitate!)
What to Do After an Event: How to Actually Integrate What You Learned
We hear it all the time when we’re heading into an event:
“Set your intentions.”
“Be intentional with your time.”
“Know what you want to get out of this.”
And yes, that matters. But there’s something I see over and over again that matters just as much… if not more.
What you do after the event.
Because the truth is, most people leave an event with pages of notes, ideas, strategies, and inspiration… and then go right back into their normal life. Back into work. Back into routines. Back into the same patterns.
And everything they just learned? It stays in the notebook.
So let’s talk about how to actually integrate what you learn so it changes something.
The Missing Piece: Integration Time
The first thing I always recommend is simple, but most people don’t do it.Give yourself time after the event.
If you can, take a full extra day. Not to travel. Not to catch up on work. But to sit with what you just experienced.
Now, I know that’s not always realistic. So if you can’t take a full day, take at least one hour within the first couple of days after the event.
That one hour can change everything. Because without it, you go right back into the “doing” without ever processing what you just received.
Step 1: Do a Full “Download” of Everything You Learned
Before you try to organize anything, start with a full dump.
Take all your notes from your journal, your phone, your workbook, and rewrite them into one place.
A notebook
A whiteboard
A Google Doc
A flip chart
It doesn’t matter how, it just needs to be all in one place. This is where you get everything out of your head and into a space where you can actually see it.
Step 2: Reconnect to Your Current Season
Before you start deciding what to do with that list, pause.
Reconnect to:
Your current goals (30, 60, 90 days)
Your bigger vision for the year
What season you’re actually in right now
Because here’s the truth: Not everything you learned is meant for you right now.
And some of it might not be meant for you at all.
Step 3: Filter the List (This Is Where It Gets Powerful)
Now go back to your list and move through it one by one. You’re going to sort everything into three categories:
❌ Not For Me
These are the things that don’t align at all.
Cross them out. No guilt. No “maybe later.” Let them go.
✅ Hell Yes (Right Now)
These are the things that:
align with your current goals
feel exciting and doable
would actually move the needle in the next 30-60 days
Circle these.
⭐ Not Now (But Maybe Later)
These are the ideas that:
feel interesting
might be aligned… just not in this season
Star these. And here’s the key: don’t lose them.
Put them somewhere you can revisit in 90 days… a project management tool, a note, a reminder.
Step 4: Narrow It Down (This Is Where Most People Get Stuck)
Now look at your “hell yes” list. If you’re like most people, you might have:
10… 15… maybe even 20 things circled.
And here’s the truth: You are not going to do all of those in the next 30–60 days.
So we simplify again.
Ask yourself:
What are my top priorities right now?
What actually fits my capacity?
Then choose:
3 things for the next 30 days
3 things for the following 30 days
That’s it. If even that feels like too much? Start with one thing.
Step 5: Take Action (and Close the Loop)
This part is often overlooked but it matters.
After you implement something from an event, go back and share it! Message the speaker. Tag the host.
Tell them: “I implemented this… and here’s what changed.”
Not only does that build connection, but it reinforces the fact that you didn’t just attend the event, you integrated it.
The Truth About Events No One Talks About
Here’s something I’ve learned through attending, hosting, and now facilitating at events:
You are not meant to take everything with you.
At a recent event I attended, I remember sitting there feeling completely overwhelmed as strategies were being shared. Marketing plans. Calendar mapping. Content strategies.
And I had to pause and realize: That’s not the season I’m in right now.
So instead of forcing it, I asked: What actually matters for me right now?
Remember, you don’t need all the strategies, ideas, and tactics. You need the RIGHT few things for this season.
If you are someone who hosts your own events both in-person and virtually and you want the support from someone who can come in to facilitate this for your group of attendees, this is what I love doing!
Bringing this into action to see the releases, the aha’s, and then getting to say, “I’m following up in 30 days to see where you are at” is one of my favorite things.
Head over to the Let’s Connect page and submit the form there letting me know you are interested in having me come facilitate this experience for you. Trust me, you can follow the above steps all day but like anything else, when someone else is there to follow through and hold you accountable…… it changes everything!
