What Masterminding Actually Means to Me
In this episode, I talk about:
What masterminding truly is (and what it’s not)
The difference between workshops, coaching, & true mastermind experiences
The framework I’ve built to help people leave with clarity and action
How I’m bringing mastermind facilitation into immersions, events, and communities
Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t another strategy. Sometimes it’s finally having space to be seen, supported, challenged, and poured into by people who truly get it.
Why true masterminding is about integration, receiving, and real transformation, not just information.
If you’ve spent any time in the coaching or personal development world, you’ve probably heard the word mastermind more times than you can count.
And honestly? I think the meaning has gotten a little lost along the way.
Because somewhere over time, “mastermind” started becoming synonymous with:
online programs
group coaching
workshops
being talked at for hours
And while there’s absolutely value in those things… That’s not what masterminding truly is or means to me.
What Masterminding Actually Is
At its core, masterminding is simple: A group of people coming together to help one person move through a challenge, obstacle, decision, or opportunity.
That’s it. Not surface-level networking. Not passive learning. Real, intentional collaboration.
One person brings something they’re navigating, and the room then reflects, supports, asks questions, offers perspective, shares wisdom, and helps them uncover clarity.
And then?
That person gets to decide:
what resonates
what’s actionable
and what needs to be released
Because not every piece of advice is meant for everyone. And that’s okay.
The Most Important Part: Giving and Receiving
This is the part I think matters most. A mastermind only works if everyone in the room is willing to both give and receive.
The person being supported has to be open enough to actually receive insight. And the people offering support have to be unattached to whether their advice gets used.
That’s where so much growth happens. Because learning to receive is hard for a lot of us.
Especially as high-capacity women and men who are used to helping, fixing, supporting, and carrying. Receiving support can feel deeply uncomfortable.
And yet… it’s often exactly what we need.
This Is Why I Love Facilitating Masterminds
Over the last year especially, I’ve realized something: I’m not just someone who hosts masterminds.
I’m a mastermind facilitator. An integration expert.
Because the magic isn’t just in the conversation itself.
It’s in:
helping people identify the real challenge
guiding the room intentionally
filtering through what’s actually aligned
and then helping people integrate what they learned afterward
That last piece matters so much. Because insight without implementation changes nothing.
What Makes a Mastermind Actually Effective
One thing I’ve learned over time is that a powerful mastermind experience needs structure.
Not rigidity, but intentionality. Things like:
setting the right intention beforehand
helping people prepare what they want support on
creating emotional safety in the room
filtering through the advice afterward
creating actual action steps
accountability and follow-up
That’s the difference between: “Wow, that was inspiring.” to “Wow, my business and life are actually changing because of this.”
Masterminding Isn’t Just About Business
This is another thing I feel really strongly about. People often think masterminding has to be strategy, revenue, or business growth.
But sometimes? The thing impacting your business most is your life.
Sometimes the real conversation is:
needing more rest
figuring out boundaries
prioritizing movement
taking care of your nervous system
creating more space for yourself
For example, one of the incredible women who attended the Immersion in May this year gave this feedback after attending…..
“I arrived without expectations and left with new friendships and bond with my fellow attendees. There was also an unexpected reminder to take care of myself and my personal life, not just my work. That shift lifted a weight off my shoulders I hadn't even fully acknowledged I was carrying. “- Melissa
Because life and business impact each other constantly. Whether we want them to or not. And pretending they’re completely separate just hasn’t been my experience.
The Rooms That Change Us
Some of the most powerful moments I’ve witnessed facilitating masterminds have nothing to do with strategy itself.
It’s watching:
someone finally feel seen
someone realize they’re not alone
someone receive support without having to earn it
someone leave with clarity after feeling stuck for months
That’s why I care so deeply about this work. Because true masterminding creates transformation that extends far beyond business tactics.
Where This Is Showing Up in My Business
Masterminding has become a core pillar of almost everything I do. Through IME, the Immersions, local mastermind gatherings, speaking and facilitation at events, and integration experiences.
And honestly? I think we need more spaces like this. More rooms where people can:
think deeply
be supported
receive perspective
and move from overwhelm into clarity
Together.
To me, masterminding isn’t about hierarchy. It’s not about someone standing at the front of the room pretending to have all the answers.
It’s about collective wisdom. Intentional facilitation. Honest reflection. And meaningful integration.
It’s about learning:
what to hold onto
what to release
and what action actually matters next
And when done well? It can change everything.
